"With
a nod to the glory metal days of early Shrapnel Records, The Sean Baker
Orchestra features balls to the wall guitars, walls to the balls guitars - and
everything in between. Featuring the shredded guitar of Michigan's Sean Baker,
and the participation of ex-Racer X guitarist Bruce Bouillet (who engineered,
mixed and even added some guitar work on one track), the music is fast and
furious - epitomizing instrumental metal guitar music. Baker has created a
record for die-hard fans that just can't get enough axe work - nine guitars
grace the cover of The Sean Baker Orchestra, and for all we know, Baker used 'em
all - and then some. Throbbing with sheer power and total conviction, Baker's
debut should hopefully signal the beginning of a new round of ultra-heavy,
guitar-dominated releases." - Guitar9.com
"Another
one of those unheard of guitarists I could kick myself in the ass for as far as
finding him sooner. This guy is pretty righteous i my opinion if you like the
heavier style of instrumental shred, fusion and mixed in emotion, melody and
harmony breaks. Think of instrumentalists like Michael Harris, Corbin King,
Marty Friedman, Project Steiger, Gary Hoey and Daniel Wentworth for example
since there's tons of these guys and I can go off all day long.
This 12-track effort shows some very emphatic and thick rhythmic mosh anthems
and groove-laiden hooks that pummel you to no end. The leads are explosive and
despite a Paul Gilbert kind of flare, Sean has many influential weapons at his
disposal like Friedman, Becker and maybe even some TSO/Savatage as far as
Pitrelli and Oliva. Ironically, since we're speaking of Racer X, this album was
mixed by the phenomenal Bruce Bouillet from the shred camp. I always thought he
was undershadowed because of Gilbert and it pissed me off to no end because
Bruce did some incredible stuff as well as the tandem was very reminiscent of
Thorpe and McGee from Vicious Rumors.
I just had a good time with htis CD as far as the songwriting, the musicmanship
and the diversity. Nothing tumultuous, arrogant, repetitive..just a smooth flow
of alot of different ideas put to music, put to moods or put to the
shredder....one album that's hard to judge just by the first few songs."
